GENErAL INFOrMATION
Regular maintenance is the key to long equipment life and safe operation. Maintenance
requirements have been reduced to an absolute minimum. However, it is very important that
these maintenance functions be performed as described below.
EvErY 8 HOUrs OF OPErATION
Grease all swivel points (ram and base end of all cylinders) thoroughly. Excessive wear
and even mechanical damage to pins and cylinders can result from inadequate lubrication.
Use a multi-purpose grease.
Lubricateallgreasettingswithamulti-purposegrease.Forgreaselocations,referto
the diagram in the lubrication section of this manual.
EvErY 40 HOUrs OF OPErATION
Checkhydraulicreservoiruidlevel.Ifoilislow,checkalllines,ttings,andcontrol
valve for signs of leakage.
IMPORTANT: Hydraulic uid level should be checked with backhoe in transport posi-
tion.
WArNING! Escaping hydraulic/diesel uid under pressure can penetrate the skin caus-
ing serious injury.
DO NOT use your hand to check for leaks. Use a piece of cardboard or pa-
per to search for leaks.
Stop engine and relieve pressure before connecting or disconnecting lines.
Tighten all connections before starting engine or pressurizing lines.
If any hydraulic/diesel uid is injected into the skin, obtain medical atten-
tion immediately or gangrene or other serious injury will result.
Physically check all pins, bushings, cotter pins, nuts, etc., for signs of wear or loose
t.Tightenasrequired,replacingwherenecessary.(Boltsandpinsmayvibratelooseduring
operation.)Cleanequipmentofalldirt,oil,andexcessgrease.Thiswillassistyouinmaking
visual inspections and help avoid overlooking worn or damaged components.
